In his thirty-seven year legal career, W. William Jones has become one of the most respected civil trial attorneys in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He has been named to Texas Monthly’s “Super Lawyer” list, is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale Hubbell, and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
William has lived in Dallas County since his family moved from Columbia, South Carolina to Dallas in 1954, and he maintains his close ties to the community he considers home. After graduation from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1972, William returned to Dallas and earned his Juris Doctorate degree at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 1975.
Upon admission to the State Bar of Texas, William recognized the opportunity to serve and gain trial experience, and began his law career at the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in 1975. As an Assistant District Attorney, William prosecuted countless criminal trials for Dallas County. During that time, he worked with and still maintains connections to some of the finest criminal lawyers in the county.
Civil Law Experience
In 1976, William changed the focus of his career to the civil docket. He joined the prestigious Dallas firm of Touchstone, Bernays, Johnston, Beall and Smith. Working closely with his mentor, Webber Beall, William defended clients in the civil courts of Dallas and surrounding counties. In 1979, before his 30th birthday, William became a partner and continued to defend clients for the firm until 1988. In 1988, William and another preeminent trial lawyer joined forces and established Johnson and Jones, P.C. William continued to defend clients as he grew his trial practice.
In 2005, William began to focus on the plaintiff’s side of his practice and now owns and operates The Law Offices of W. William Jones. He is proud of the experience he acquired as a defense attorney and believes that defense experience gives him particular insight into the insurance industry, defendants and their tactics, which he uses for the benefit of his current clients.
William has handled thousands of civil lawsuits including, but not limited to, automobile/truck collisions, premise liability (dangerous property conditions), products liability (harmful products), and DRAM Shop (suits against bars and restaurants relating to alcohol service). His vast trial experience includes more than 270 trials tried to jury verdict. A strong communicator and advocate for his clients, William and his clients are well pleased with the results he has received from juries in Dallas and surrounding counties. He stands on his record!
Civil Law Honors and Accomplishments
William has, for the last 33 consecutive years, been AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale Hubbell, the highest level of legal ability and ethics, based on peer review.
He has achieved Diplomat status (the highest level of accomplishment) in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and is a Fellow in the American Board of Trial Advocates Foundation. The American Board of Trial Advocates is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. First and foremost, ABOTA works to uphold the jury system by educating the American public about the history and value of the right to trial by jury (ABOTA Mission).
